Art Casting - AL23 - 2022

Actor and sculptor Rainer Hunold realized the sculpture AL 23 in 2022 at the Lauchhammer Art Foundry – an iron casting based on a plaster model he had created himself. The work belongs to the series AL, developed after a working stay in Andalusia. Within this group, Hunold explores the relationship between organic movement, volume and surface. The compact yet flowing forms create a rhythmical tension that is characteristic of his sculptural language.

For the casting, the plaster model was carefully re-moulded in Lauchhammer and cast in iron. The process allows the direct transfer of the modelled structure so that even the smallest tool traces remain visible. The openly exposed, rust-coloured oxide layer emphasizes the material honesty of the iron and gives the sculpture a vivid, evolving appearance.

In its compact unity, AL 23 exemplifies how Hunold conducts a dialogue between artistic form-finding and craftsmanship – between studio and foundry. The work also reflects his close connection with the material iron.
